If you like xkcd, you might also like the Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal comics. More jokes about sociology and philosophy, fewer about engineering, almost as nerdy and if anything slightly more prolific.

If a more social criticism bent with a dash of surrealism doesn’t turn you off, then, maybe Cat & Girl? She’s had some hard-hitting comics recently. Like xkcd and SMBC, they’re generally standalones and not reliant on specific characters.
