Im not sure you understand how companies work. Which is okay you don’t have to. But Sony, a super company does not actually have a stake in 99% of the things it invests in. It throws money at stuff for a multitude of reasons then wipes it hands. The thing existing at a particular time helps them the money and stakes are irrelevant.

Basically Sony wanted Palworld on Playstation and probably knew pocket pair would fight Nintendo, this gave them a chance to watch from the sidelines. Also Aniplex was a big part of this deal, unsure how much.
