I'm kind of assuming you already went through the entire gundam wiki, since that would be my first attempt after Eva. Escaflowne's mechs are like designed to not work for your format.
Are there non-mech anime series you're fond of?

Not especially. I watch mostly SoL and fantasy and there isn’t much in those genres that I could use. Everything that I’m especially fond of I’ve already tested. My favorite ship is the Swordfish II for example, but that doesn’t fit the pattern. :(
