Genuine question, why don’t they put the beepy tag things that are on stuff like video games and pricier clothing? That’s what they do with stuff like fancy liquor where I’m at. I’ve never had to ask an employee to unlock a cabinet for me, not even for actual expensive stuff, like a laptop.

the beep tag doesn’t stop anything from going out the door, it just startles, confuses, and shames people who legitimately purchased something but are triggering the alarm with sensors that weren’t properly deactivated by the cashier

Yup, it’s the “annoying and invasive, but easily cracked DRM” of the retail world. It annoys legitimate customers, while doing very little to actually deter theft. Most of those beep tags can be quickly and easily removed with a strong magnet.
