Comment on What do we do when all the crts are gone?
BarbecueCowboy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 days agoLatency is not 0 like op suggests but he’s not entirely wrong about the latency comparison to modern displays (at a technical level for your average modern display). You are still correct that the numbers are so low typically that it’s not an issue for… 99.9% of people. Probably more.
If we’re talking to someone like a top competitive street fighter player though, I’m super interested in how they feel about CRTs vs modern displays. Note that this is also a different conversation if you’re on a TV that doesn’t have some sort of a Game Mode, those can be rough.
Great writeup on real world CRT input lag: resetera.com/…/crts-have-8-3ms-of-input-lag-addre…

Yeah I think a good gaming monitor has better latency than a CRT. I remember a Mario 64 speedrunning event brought the top players in for a weekend (literally a new world record was set at this event, they had all the best players) and they were all playing on gaming monitors with a good N64 to HDMI adapter. None of them complained about latency, they all enjoyed the setup, and I remember the world record holder (Cheese) actually started using the same setup at home.
