Comment on Everybody is fine with celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg making up fake names for themselves, but when someone chooses a name for themselves to suit their gender identity it's suddenly a problem

Actors and Actresses have to register their name with a guild and sometimes change it because it is too close to another previos actor’s name.

So to just skip that problem they make up a registered stage name. Not that it lends anymore authenticity but rather there is a structural professional reason that they do that.
