After recently being reminded of Blame! I wanted to read more from the author Tsutomu Nihei. I did not expect that everything he touches would turn gold like Blame! did and was correct in that that assumption.
- First I read Aposimz. I could take it or leave it. It’s very similar to Blame! in the setting and pasing but has a greater emphasis on the story and characters. While the setting is very cool and I enjoyed it I never felt connected to any of he characters. Which is sad since the story is mostly told through dialogue.
- Secondly I read Kaina of the Great Snow Sea. I enjoyed spending my time with it. The setting is more nature focused here but the story is still about a mega structure. It works well and reminds me of Ghiblis Nasciaä of the Valley of the Wind. My biggest problem with it is that it never manages to build any tension. It kind of feels like the manga is being pulled in two different directions in that the characters and story feel very shounen but the setting is seinen. But overall its good.
- Thirdly I read NOiSE. It’s very short. Nothing much yo say about this other than it’s more Blame!. +rec

The world of Kaina sounds fascinating to me. It had an anime adaptation a while back and I put it on my list to watch when I have time…and then just haven’t had time. Thanks for the reviews!
