But what does that even mean? Jesus comes to you and holds you by the hand into salvation? Or following the teachings of Jesus does? Because if that’s so, then you’d also have to follow the law, right? Paul is a trickster.
Comment on Jesus was Jewish, but Christians aren't
ExtraMedicated@lemmy.world 15 hours agoI think it goes a bit deeper than just ease of assimilation. A big part of Paul’s ministry was the idea that only Jesus can provide salvation, which implies that following all the laws can not. At least that was my understanding based on what I remember reading.

Hear what Jesus said Himself:
Matthew 22:34-40
But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Exactly. The letter to the Romans or Acts 15 for instance. Im not defending Christianity, to be clear, I’m defending Lemmy from nonsense. I’m a card holding Satanist.
