Comment on Former world leaders call for fossil fuel taxes to fund global climate action
psx_crab@lemmy.zip 5 days agoIt’s easier to say stuff because taking these sort of action is most of the time politically suicide, the opposition will drum it up as a bad move that hurt everyone. It take someone with very strong political will and leadership to put these sort of policies ahead.

I guess political suicide is worse than people dying because of climate inaction

I mean, yeah, you can enact a radical policy, and then lose the next round to the right leaning party and then they retract back everything you enacted, making the overall result worst. Whoops.

Do you look around and think, “yup, right on track to success!”

I do look around and see a tons of idiots that will bring the country or even the world down so their status quo will not be affected. And i do see a lot of good policy being shot down because it challenged the status quo, and also do see political party falls because the good thing they do will only bear fruits a couples of years later. I’m actually seeing one happening the next election. I also witnessed a strong political party taking the back seat instead of taking more leadership role, because their skin colour and birthright doesn’t match the majority.
My opinion isn’t formed because i think we’re in a good spot, it’s formed based on what happened in reality.
