Comment on Jesus was Jewish, but Christians aren't
ImWaitingForRetcons@lemmy.world 1 day agoThis is almost certainly not true. There is no way Romance would cede such an important aspect of governance to the Jews, not to mention most scholarship having converged on the idea that Jesus was killed by the Romans for changing their sovereignty (claiming to be the King of the Jews).

The documentation at the time is pretty clear. The Romans were scared of a Jewish uprising so crucified Jesus.
At Pentecost, Peter told the Jews they crucified Jesus
Acts 2:23
Acts 2:36
Acts 4:10

You can’t use the acts as evidence for this, since they’re internally inconsistent versus the other gospels and the Pauline epistles. Current scholarship clearly puts the blame on the Romans. This is backed up by Pontius Pilate being well known for being a brutal ruler, and not one who cared much for Jewish sensibilities.

Current scholarship? You mean Bart Ehrman- some guy who came about 2000 years after the fact and has been debunked over and over again, and is generally one who is known for making pretty bad takes and arguments. Even here the redditor claims he says:
When mosy of the records about Him document Him claiming that.
There are no inconsistencies in Acts of the Apostles either.
