It’s bytes downloaded divided by bytes uploaded. Torrents are distributed so more often than not you download a file from several seeders

How can the two be a fraction? Did you download it several times, or does it count partial uploads?

Torrenting can be seen like a big classroom.
There are teachers (seeders) who have the entire knowledge you need
But it could be that there are more students for 1/n teacher/s to handle or you could be very far away from all the teachers
BUT: everyone who still has te learn (peers) are free to share their notes
So basically everyone helps informing everyone so its totally possible that at the end you only got like 0.12 from the teacher and already helped someone else with 0.1
Also torrenting allows pausing the download so alone this reason makes torrenting better than normal http-downloads-from-some-website (at least to me)

And everyone has the answer book (hash of every chunk in the .torrent file) to check that they’re not being bullshitted by malicious peers.
