Comment on How did that 22-year-old get on in the date his dad set him up with?

There is no evidence for how this could have worked for real, at least not how it was portrayed. If it’s just a case of covert prostitution, sure. But no “normal” woman would agree to such a date no matter how much of a social butterfly this dad is. Especially not women who are much older than the guy (5 years difference is a lot in this age range). I mean, come on, that’s literally the plot of a bad romcom.

You’re assuming Original OP is from a western culture (well I didn’t see the original post so idk what exactly it said). In many Asian cultures, (consensual) arranged marriage is still a thing, particularly if the male side has a little bit of money (not necessarily “rich”, just own a house). There’s a lot of pressure to get married for some reason.

There is no such thing as consensual arranged marriage. Nor is it a thing in Asian cultures to have the woman being significantly older than the man, it’s the opposite. And then there is the fact that it’s not about marriage but a date so there is no connection to this romcom fantasy anyway, with the possible exception that the social butterfly dad may have simply paid the woman to date his son (Prostitution).

There is.
Its basicially when families decide to introduce their children to each other and then pressure them to get married. It is technically consensual, although this “consent” is highly coerced due to social expectations and not truely freely given.
My parents got married that way. We are from mainland China.
You’re correct about this one, I didn’t read the original post, so if that’s the case, that’s very unusual and probably trolling.
