This isn’t some random company using azure to host an app. This is Microsoft dedicating a team of engineers to write a custom version of its software to track people on behalf of a genocidal government.

Normally I’d roll my eyes and move on…
But in this instance I’m going to call service provider protection. It’s not the bus companies fault if you take the bus into town to rob the bank. It shouldn’t be on my ISP to check if I torrent or not. And it’s not on Microsoft what people do with the Azure platform.
They’ve provided a service, which people have used to do bad. That doesn’t mean the service is bad.
… though it is the fediverse and this is Microsoft … so shit away on it

There’s a difference between “they rode the bus into town” and “you personally sold them a car, saw them rob a town with it, and continue to refuel and maintain that car explicitly for them to rob towns with it”

Keeping with the example, the bus company spun up a separate assembly line to make busses specifically designed to rob banks.
