The microblog memes community was awful about that. Posting a political manifesto instead of a meme. Then I got banned because I reported those posts.
Comment on I'm sure this would work out fine

ive left a few comments here and there complaining about people posting stuff on meme comms that isn't even a meme, just straight politics. this is what those people should be doing instead because its actually a meme. thank you.

Sorry your plan to change the meaning of the word “meme” from “self replicating idea” to “funny picture” didn’t work out
unknown1234_5@kbin.earth 1 day ago
in the context of communities like these that change already happened naturally, thats how language works. its the same as how guy means man in some contexts, even though originally it meant idiot and was in reference to someone named guy who tried to bomb Parliament. language changes, context matters, and there are communities for politics that you can go to to talk politics.

Right, but you’re wrong. The people in charge disagree. Your new definition isn’t what the rules are based on.

yeah, the actual memes that were there were good but I only ever saw politics.
Sivecano@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
Oh yeah, the shitposting community are the only people with actually funny political memes
unknown1234_5@kbin.earth 1 day ago
yeah. i dont mind referencing politics but just straight up posting your political views should only happen (or be allowed) in relevant communities.

this community isn't as bad about it, but if you want to see what I was talking about check out microblog memes. they are awful about it.

They have a pit of a misleading name, but any type of screenshot is allowed
