    Nintendo isn’t consistent in their own games, so it doesn’t matter either way. Mario and Luigi race with baby versions of themselves!

      Ah so the better theory then is eventually at some point time travel is invented in the Mario universe and is used in wildly inappropriate manners.

        I guess Partners in Time would be when the time travel was discovered! Conveniently explains child Pauline as well, I suppose.
