I read it after watching DS9 and I don’t feel like I missed anything. The story picks up right after the events of the DS9 finale

The narrative only revolves around the events of Deep Space Nine so you shouldn't have to read anything else. It also involves a lot of flashbacks filling in gaps in Garak's story. Odo wishes he could read this novel.

100% agreed, to anyone considering it, do yourself a favor and get it. Especially love when he tries to imitate Quark’s voice, but the book as a whole is great.
