Comment on The strenghts and weaknesses of atproto and activitypub.
BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 3 weeks agoHmm.
PieFed is ActivityPub compatible, but has some features that Lemmy doesn't. I'm just wondering if it has any differences that might go into your strengths and weaknesses assessment as a result. It's a bit life how kbin / mbin are similar to Lemmy but not quite the same.

Ah, right.
Well, this is just AP in general.
Though, piefed having community moving is great, since communities aren’t trapped on their host server. I don’t think lemmy.world would be as big a problem if they could move communities there.

PieFed also has feeds and you can create them to share with others (the instance itself and its users) just like BlueSky but instead of making it around a group of profiles, its made up of a group of communities. Then there's topics which is exclusively made available by the instance you're browsing from doing the samething but categorizing things in an organized way.
Also, for you to create feeds on BlueSky you need to use a 3rd party service, while on PieFed its there by default and provided for everyone to do it directly from the default interface everyone uses. In that aspect, I think PieFed is ahead of Lemmy honestly.

Bluesky feeds are a bit more advanced than that, they are really just collections of posts, so I can make one for every post with the word “guinea pig”, or the word “activitypub”, and filter them.
Piefed’s feeds are cool still.
Once there’s a few more apps for it, and the search gets better, I’ll be using it.
