Pretty wild stuff.
The fast-track trial, known as “rito abbreviato”, is a legal procedure in Italian law in which defendants are judged on the basis of evidence brought by prosecutors, with no debate of that evidence by legal teams.
That sounds rather questionable?

As an accused, it’s your choice to go with this or the traditional process. And there are advantages for you if you decide to go with it instead of the traditional process: for example, if you are condemned, the sentence will be 1/3 shorter.
This is chosen by the accused when the evidence against them is so clear that they know they will be surely condemned.
It’s a win-win situation because the justice system saves time and money and the accused gets a shorter sentence.
