The mandatory DRM checks I think are 100% going to happen and I think that's the reason behind the TPM requirement for Windows 11. A completely secure bios->os chain is needed to completely lock out stuff like VLC.

They have been trying to implement this for more than a decade. It is never going to be viable.
The days of windows dominance are long, long gone.
Any service that tries to implement this will be a ghost town as there are so many other ways and devices to view content on.

Windows dominance is still here for a very long time as you go to any brick and mortar tech store and buy a new desktop/laptop and it’s most certainly not running anything other than windows, with the exception being apple products. Also, the average computer user sure as hell will never switch because they don’t care.

There will never be the year of the linux desktop but that is because windows one but that the PC lost.
The era of the home PC is over.
Most people's first introduction with windows these days is in the work place.
Windows lost the battle to to be the centre of home entertainment more than a decade ago.
Sure, it still dominates pc gaming but that is a rounding error when it comes to media consumption.

You can't even convince normal people this is bad. You really think there's enough critical mass among naysayers to really matter? I can (and do) only run Linux at home, but as soon as my bank switches over to requiring this bullshit, I'm going to have to play along on a different device.

We can only hope. The Steamdeck is definitely making huge strides in Linux market penetration. I'm worried that companies like Microsoft and Google will be able to force their way through sheer inertia and apathy and forced updates.
