hexbears are abrasive because experience has taught us to expect 90% of liberals to respond in bad faith, to not listen to us and to dismiss us as bots or paid propagandists or stupid, evil sycophants with no moral compass or justifications for anything we believe and no sincere interest in improving the world, and to tune out when we attempt to argue otherwise.
