Last week I mentioned wanting to go back to an old manhwa I haven’t read in years. While this is still the plan, I decided to check out another series by the author of Beware the Villainess! - S-Class Hunter Doesn’t Want to Be a Villainous Princess (yes, villainess themed stories are my guilty pleasure, how did you know?).

The basic premise is kinda similar, though a little expanded - MC gets thrown into a grim dark fantasy novel where she has to defeat a big bad to return to her old life. After 500 years and multiple resets/deaths she finally manages do to so, only to be sent to a romance novel instead “due to a bug”. Also, she hates the romance genre.

This series is fine, not as interesting as the previous one for me but still has plenty of decent moments. There are some story beats similar to the previous work, lots of humour, plenty of beautiful outfits and good looking characters - enough meat to not make me put it down immediately.
It leans a bit more into the power fantasy and meta elements (it’s a romance novel but it has game features like skills, stats and system menus) which I don’t particularly care for. Oh, she also has godlike “familiars” from her previous world which serve as a nice comedic foil to her thought process a lot of the time (especially whenever she’s done with constantly reinforced genre tropes).

All in all it’s a decent time and I’ll probably finish the whole thing. Not a terrible detour before I jump into the other planned series, I guess.

On another note, going through these stories made me realise one thing - WHERE THE HECK ARE VISUAL NOVELS WITH SIMILAR PREMISE?!

Where are my head strong, genre savvy, heroines with hustle mindset and willingness to bend the stories to their will? It’s otome, isn’t it? There have to be some there.

Time for some research.
