    “Muschi” works for both in German, although it probably a bit antiquated by now. The question is though, if that was also the case back then.

      Yes my grandpa was calling my grandma muschi all the time in the sense of kitty. Was too funny.

        The politician Stoiber called his wife “Muschi” publicly too.

        Only thing I remember about him other than his famous Transrapid speech.
