Much preferred the “original” to Eternal.
Far too fiddly for my liking.

Doom eternal alone makes this worth it. I say that as someone with nearly 120 hours in the game. If you are sad and alone on a depressing night, dont grab for your tissues and lotion. Buy this for 24 bucks and spend that time pumping demons full of lead.

I’m the exact opposite. Doom 2016 is good, but Eternal is much better in my opinion. The dash and SSG grapple just make the game much better.

I manage to often die on the easiest difficulty on doom eternal. I hate having to switch to so many weapons. I guess I’m the most casual player this world has

I suggest you learn to use the ice grenade and the flame belch, especially the ice grenade will keep you alive, also you dont need to weapon swap, just try to keep shoooting and running and you should be ok. The most important thing is to keep moving. Standing still is like a death scentence, you should alyo try to keep one charge of blood punch at all times, since that can help clear the way when you are being crowded

The game might make it seem like you constantly need to use specific weapons, for certain things, but you really don’t (except the very beginning). The weakpoints feel like a big deal at first, but they become increasingly a non-issue as you play the game and get more powers.
I played the later levels and even the Master Levels recently with mostly the Super Shotgun and Ballista, just using the same strategy over and over. SSG to grapple in, quick switch to Ballista, jump back. If you have grenades or the punch, use them in-between.

Maybe I’m playing too passively. I’m just running around in circles while thinking what to do next: which enemy, which weapon…

The game definitely wants you to be aggressive, but you can sometimes just run around to think for a few seconds. I do it sometimes to wait for my chainsaw cooldown to finish, because I need ammo. Or shoot an Imp in the face for a Glory Kill. These animations also give you some extra time to decide your next step. Enemies usually don’t continuously spawn, until the arena is just packed. There are always exceptions of course, like Totems or Archviles, but they aren’t super common.
