There are a handful of smartphones that have other OS, and you can have degoogled Android without Google services.
It’s not for everyone, but there are options.

char_stats@lemm.ee 6 days agoDon’t forget all smartphones—except iPhones of course—still use Android, which is a Google OS with Google services. In the smartphone world, there’s no real alternative to American companies. It’s pretty much an American monopoly.

Still fell free to use a non Android/iOS option, but I’m sure you are using OEM Android/iOS, making this complain blatantly empty.

CalyxOS on Fairphone is your friend, my friend. 😎 It’s degoogled and it values your privacy. If you really need an app from Google Play, there is the Aurora store in between. For everything else thete is F-droid and the calyx and guardian repo.

LineageOS has the biggest library for supported devices afaik, and if you have a supported device you can try PostmarketOS which is Gnu/Linux based without any Android base, again afaik.
