Pretty sure Kenichi’s line in the intro 命を燃やせ 今がその時だ (inochi wo moyase / ima ha sono toki da) is a reference to this, which also fits his around 40 age.

They basically finished the manga without the extra chapter, but the mayonaise-mage who is probably also from Japan did get a cameo in the after credits scene.
