I want to get some kind of smart lock myself, but I can’t find one that would adequately replace what I have in terms of security. Basically, the combination of an Australian deadbolt (which can only be opened or locked with a key regardless of which side of the door you’re on) and a regular latch, allowing the door essentially to be in one of three states: unlocked, locked from the outside, and locked from both sides. Such a product doesn’t seem to exist. They can all be opened by hand on the inside. And I feel this would cause my insurance to go up being less secure.
Nar the Yale / Lockwood deadlatch can be locked from the inside with a physical key. However the outside does not have a keyway, so entry is by an NFC tag, pin or via the app or home assistant.
Might? Be what your chasing. Think Bunnings stock the black one while JB have the silver.

Heavybell@lemmy.world 6 hours ago It’s not for me. The deadbolt only gets locked when everyone is out of the house. The idea is to make robbing the place discretely harder. Sure, windows remain a weakness, but if a thief enters through the window and cannot open the door, they have to leave via the window too.
If a window is close enough to a deadbolt, a thief could smash the window to reach the inner side of the deadbolt. Having it keyed on both sides would mean they would just be reaching another place to put a key.
But if you have a house fire…
I’d rather risk a burglar than burning to death cause I couldn’t find the key.
The key can stay inside of the lock inside of the apartment when someone is home if that’s a concern. Double-keyed locks can be super useful in certain cases:
My last apartment was designed badly, with four rooms, a bedroom, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen, each room being one of the corners of a square apartment. My bedroom had two exits: one through the living room, and one into the bathroom(and a window leading outside). And my bathroom had two exits: one through the kitchen, and one into the bedroom.
Obviously the door going from the kitchen into the bathroom would have a one-way lock to prevent people from walking into the occupied bathroom.
And obviously the door going from the living room to the bedroom would have a one-way lock to prevent people from going from the living room into the bedroom if the bedroom door was locked.
But this meant that depending on how I put a one-way lock between the bedroom and the bathroom, I’d have several bad options:
putting the lock so that a person in the bathroom can lock the door between the bathroom and bedroom: This allows privacy for anyone using the bathroom, but prevents locking one of the entrances to the bedroom(meaning anyone could freely walk from the kitchen into the bathroom and then into the bedroom).
putting the lock so that a person in the bedroom can lock the door between the bathroom and bedroom: This allows privacy and security for the bedroom, but prevents locking one of the entrances to the bathroom(allowing anyone to freely walk into the bedroom and then into the bathroom)
keeping the door locked from the kitchen to the bathroom when privacy is needed for the bedroom. This is a terrible situation, because guests can’t easily use the bathroom.

The only solution I found for the door between the bedroom and the bathroom to have a door handle that required using the same key from both sides of the door. If the door was ever locked during an emergency, both rooms would be left with other available exits. What I did was to leave the key in the lock, usually inside of the handle on the bedroom side, and usually leaving that one door open while home, but if anyone needed to use the bathroom, they could grab the key from the lock and lock it from inside of the bathroom as well. I also had a second key on my regular keyring where I carry most of my keys.
So a locked door trying to go into the bathroom would let me know “Someone’s in here,” and I would know to stop.
And I could easily have both entrances to my bedroom locked, to protect my privacy, while allowing guests to still have easy access to the bathroom.
But I still had the second key on my keyring, in case I ever needed to open the lock if I was on the wrong side of the locked door and ever needed to quickly get through.
I found it to be a pretty good solution. It worked well for years.
If the house was on fire I would just step out through a window frame after smashing the window with the nearest solid object I can find.
But I use regular keys and my front door can be locked/unlocked without a key from the inside.

The lock in the picture is likely the Ultraloq U-Bolt (pro?). It’s a neat little device, it’ll operate on z-wave, Bluetooth, or optionally Wi-Fi but can also be operated like a normal lock. Lots of features and I think it looks really cool on both sides of the door, especially outside. It does still require a pesky manufacturer app to access the setup features but you really only need it to include/exclude from the network.
