so I feel a sense of “loyalty”.
Do not let that factor in. I have been fired twice, once because of new manager syndrome, once because of 'we’re moving in a different direction .
The company feels no loyalty to you, do not reciprocate.
My work is niche and both times I was fired I was rehired after they realized they fucked up. It cost them big time to rehire me, and while I did the work I was less invested in it. After work emails or phone calls were ignored and dealt with the next day.

That’s understandable, but… Unless your dad owns the place, I would not count on them having the same loyalty to you.

I didn’t mean that as a dig, only that unless it was family (and family you got along with) I wouldn’t trust them.
Two years of work with no pay doesn’t sound like a great deal to me.

Old fart here. Loyalty doesn’t figure in business anymore. That’s not a cynical position, it’s a true position, especially in relation to staff.
Loyalty actually stops you doing what’s best for the company because you will be disinclined to present momentum which might undermine (accidentally or otherwise) someone to whom you are loyal.
