huquad@lemmy.ml 21 hours agoThis is it right here. Firefighters also have to deal with hot voltage. When responding to a house fire, protocol is to kill the power. That works for external, but solar panels will keep the lines hot. Many standard solar deployments include shutoffs right alongside the main breaker shutoff.

Grid-tied solar inverters are designed to switch off within some 10 ms upon loss of grid voltage.
I don’t think this helps in that situation. My battery system will continue powering the house on loss of power from the grid, it just will not feed power back to the grid. That shutoff isn’t that helpful when firefighters are probably worried about the power in the internal wiring.
But that’s your personal system, not the one the topic is about
