Comment on Im watching an episode of Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, filmed in black and white. In this scene a guest is showing glass making. What is going on with the film to make these black areas by the flame?

Not off the top of my head, but the paint color is called “TV Yellow.”
As an example of the phenomenon the the Addams Family set was painted in colour so that each element would show distinctly on black and white television.
