Comment on Working customer service burned out my social battery. It no longer holds a charge like it used to.

I’m curious if this has been studied at all. Like what is a social battery and how does your brain know when it’s low?

It’s more of an analogy to describe the exhaustion of your brain. Your brain doesn’t know, but it gets exhausted in a way. Kinda like when you work an office job and by the time you get home you’re “exhausted” in a mental but not physical way. Same thing
Extroverts don’t get exhausted, they get refreshed or charged like a good night’s sleep would.

Lucky gits. It’s like a light switch for me after a while where my brain it just like “nope, let’s go home”.

I run into this phenomenon when playing board games with friends. One round of the game in question is like 2-3 hours. First round I’m doing great, second round I start to get tired, disinterested, and want to go home. I never make it to a third and often not even the second.
