They went to some lengths to hand-wave “this is slavery but they are really contractors with a conscionable contract, just unbreakable”.

They went quite liberal with skipping. The comment from Takumi about Maria was confusing even after he explained it. But in the manga

Maria mistook Takumi’s workshop (which was very untidily kept) to be the house’s garbage dump and dumped bags and bags of garbage in it

it was quite a bit more humorous.

So Sidonia is looking more and more like the villain of the show. It’ll still be some months till the others are summoned but we got a glimpse of what will happen with them. Let’s hope they’ll not fall prey to the evil princess.
