Yeah but if you watch the trailer its clearly homage to the 2D games. So we can kind of judge quality on that, which flash game developers mastered long ago.

Even limited to 2D Sonics, there are official Sega products that are just terrible. Remember Sonic 4?

Thats a 2010 game and itself a simulacrum of the classic Sonic era. That was also 2.5D and not 2D, which already breaks from what we see in this post.
