Comment on Production quality often has in inverse relationship to information quality in youtube videos
bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 month agoI still prefer Veritaisum over a channel like Mark Rober which has almost 4x the subscribers, with content that sounds informational, but is really just dumbed down. Maybe Mark Rober is more aimed at younger kids, but they both are very similar with trying to make math and science accessible, but executed differently and I think Veriatsium done better.
With videos with exclusive access, i’d imagine it’s difficult to do all the fact checking of everything the company is telling you. Tom Scott also dealt with this, and it requires a tremendous effort. If there are lies being spread and the description isn’t updated or a pinned comment on the video set, then yeah, that’s shitty behavior, but generally I haven’t seen that from Derk.

Idk why, but I’ve always gotten a eery vibe from Mark Robert. Very similar to what I feel when watching Mr. Beast. Whatever they do, it just feels shallow and disingenuous for some reason.

I feel the same way about Mark Rober. For me I think I’ve figured out that I don’t like how blatantly obvious it is that the only reason the video exists is to grab headlines and attention by being so outlandish. I figured that out when I couldn’t tolerate many LTT videos anymore but still liked other LMG channels and the WAN show

I watch his video about the glitter bomb and putting roaches/rats (or whatever that was) in the scam center but didnt even express any remorse over letting scammers kill living creatures. Like he didn’t cause a pest infestation and they happened to be there, he caught living beings and released them as a “prank”. Feels odd to watch that.
Like I am not saying its immoral to kill pests, its hard to catch them alive so its understandable thats the easier way to get rid of harmful pests. But like catching them to release to someone who is gonna chase and kill them feel like a bit more like “torture”. Maybe I’m oversensitive?
