  @Alfred Bühler i think an extension does not make much sense here. I would suggest to move the notification settings to a separate settings page (like we already did with display settings etc.). There you could split the settings up to different sections e.g.:
  
  - Notifications widget
  - Desktop notifications
  - Email notifications
  
  also maybe a general section.
