Yup, sucks if you have more than one device though 💀
And to solve this problem, if you host your own internal DNS also you can just add entries there. Pihole is a nice cheap option and runs on a raspberry pi.

You can also busy edit local records on the devices you intend to access the service from. Flakier, but requires no extra hardware/services

I belive pihole can’t do split horizont. For that I use technitium.

If you’re outside your network you just hit public DNS. If you’re inside, make your domain your suffix inside your dhcp configuration and pihole and manually configure your IPs in there. Should work just fine
