My general hierarchy…

Something chronic, or changing, go to a Dr.

Something rashy, uncomfortable or parasitic, got to clinic.

If you call an ambulance, go to the ER.

My rule of thumb is

Can it wait however long it takes to see a specialist? If yes, specialist. No, urgent care.

Are you ready to pay $2k for a 15 minute ambulance trip? If so, ER. Otherwise urgent care.
