For sure. I would like to be Case 2, but I am current not able to so it’s Case 4 then. A shame, really. I didn’t check for the longest time but pretty sure they don’t ship what they’re selling to my country.
Comment on Crunchyroll the Former Pirate Site
ReluctantZen@feddit.nl 2 days agoThat’s the wild thing, they actually get less money that way. There are like 4 cases:
- You have both a CR subscription and buy the Blurays (that’s me).
- You pirate the simulcasts and buy the Blurays.
- You only stream.
- You only pirate.
Cases 3 & 4 remain the same. Case 2 will not suddenly go to a subscription and case 1 already has a subscription. There is no extra money to be made.
Technically there is a case 5, where you only buy the Blurays, but that seems very much an edge case or only theoretical.

I never bought directly from CR, because they don’t sell it here either and are the wrong region for my player, but they do a lot of releasing here through other sellers. But if they don’t sell through their own shop, I doubt they will through others…

I’ve never made the switch over to Blu-ray (and every Blu-ray I have been gifted has been a terrible experience for me – WHY AM I NOT ALLOWED TO PUT SUBTITLES ON WITH THE ENGLISH AUDIO‽‽‽ IF YOU’RE NOT GOING TO PROVIDE CAPTIONS I NEED SOMETHING) so I was involuntarily placed into case 4 some years ago because anime seems to have stopped releasing on DVD at all.
I also used to love buying from RightStuf, as well, but I’m not wanted apparently.

My guess: because the English subtitles will not match with the English dub. I can imagine that would be even more confusing/distracting.

I get where you’re coming from but bruh I have piss-poor hearing (probably genetic, too). I’ve always watched anime with subtitles even in English because I WILL miss things otherwise. Hell, half the reason I tend towards subs isn’t for the dumb notions of purity of translation but because 90% of the time the English audio balancing sucks so bad that I literally can’t hear things even will the volume turned ALL the way up. I swear those Blu-rays I got have English audio tracks at half the volume of the Japanese.
