- Comment on Looking for an Itch Recommendation? 1 week ago:
I have several suggestions, with different overall vibes, but that I think still relate to this itch.
First of all, my timewaster at the moment is Balatro. Not original, but fills the niche of a game you can hop on and off as needed, no need for quick reflexes, but still a sense of having to play and engage, with long term progression.
There was a time when Potion craft was the scratcher of this cozy niche. Very cool artstyle and music, no time constraints gameplay, and again a meaningful sense of progression with a very low bar for entry.
Perhaps not the best fit for your question, but I’ll still say it so you can try, Return of the obra dinn. It’s not cosy, but fits the criteria of something you can play with rather minimal “gamer experience” while enjoying it to the fullest. It’s an incredible investigation game where you uncover a superb and compelling story, at your own pace. Again, very characteristic artstyle, and one of my all time favorite music.
It would be a crime to answer a cozy game suggestion without mentioning Stardew Valley, however I think it’s going a bit against the non-gamer thing. Still, very nice game!
Another suggestion could be Powerwash simulator, very “brains off” kind of gameplay, very simple even for a non gamer (actually tried with a very not gamer family member), and sooo satisfying!
You may also like things like Poly bridge and other puzzle games, but I haven’t really played these so I can’t personally say.
I hope you find at least one thing you like here, and I’ll add some if I think of more

Depends on the scale. Really tiny microorganism living in the air do not fly, as in they have no active mecanism to physically interact with their environment to move in any way. They just follow the air currents at seemingly random (the exact word is brownian), kinf of like particles of dust that you see in a ray of light. It is not defined as flying and not studied as such

Insects fly the same as birds and aeroplanes do, they create air flow around a rounded wing edge, wich causes the air upward of the wing to flow faster than the air under, thus creating a lifting force. And to answer origins, to our knowledge insects were by far the first living flying things, around 300 million years ago with dragonfly relatives

My guess would be better approximation as you avoid a “fluke”, as 8 second is a very short time where nothing could easily happen even with crickets being present
- Comment on As The Outer Worlds 2 hits $80, director says "we don't set the prices for our games" and wishes "everybody could play" Obsidian's new RPG 5 months ago:
Pricetag sets expectations, simple as that. It is documented that no matter the product, people have more trust in a more expensive product than a cheaper one, even if they are actually identical. And thus, people also rightfully expect more of a more expensive product. Let’s talk about cars for example : if I buy an old overused small one just to get from point A to point B, I’ll be absolutely satisfied if I paid a few hundred bucks, and absolutely not if I paid a few thousands.
Same with games, if I have a small indie game entertain me somewhat for a few hours, I’ll be super okay if it cost me a few bucks, and super not ok if it cost me 60 or 80 euros. The intrinsic quality may not change, but that was never what was discussed in the first place.

- Comment on How do I decrease acne after shaving my face? 7 months ago:
My two cents are the following : avoid irritation as much as you can. This means doing as few passes as you can, if possible shaving somewhat less often, and/or shave less close to the skin, for exemple using an electric trimmer. You should wash beforehand using hot water, and afterwards using cold water, and then dry before moisturising. I personally use and beeswax and olive oil based cream but a lot of products will do the trick. Remember that every skin is different, and sometimes, you can do everything right and still have symptoms, so you should adjust your shaving habits to accommodate those
- Comment on The peer review system no longer works to guarantee academic rigour - a different approach is needed 1 year ago:
Maybe, just maybe, if editors did a hint of work with all the money they steal from public science funding, we could stabilise the system towards more integrity and less quantity of publication. Or also just get rid of editors to obtain the same result, but this is sadly utopic today
