Same. The undergrad paper that led me to pursue a PhD was a response to a published paper that didn’t use a control group.
- Comment on Washington's Lottery AI site turned user photo into porn 2 months ago:
Doesn’t it also have to do with the previous requests the LLM has recieved? In order for this thing to “learn” it has to know what people are looking for, so i’ve always imagined the porn problem as being a result of the fact that people are using these things to generate porn at a much greater volume than anything else, especially porn of women, so it defaults to nude because that’s what most requests were looking for

We’ve had trouble with Brother products as well unfortunately
- Comment on Rooster Teeth Shut Down By Warner Bros. Discovery 3 months ago:
Man I’m glad I stopped watching after volume 3 then. I remember thinking that the early seasons weren’t great aside from some action sequences, and that maybe once they got the ball rolling they could do the story more justice. But it needed to get better after V3, not worse lol.
- Comment on My jaw hit the floor when I watched an AI master one of the world's toughest physical games in just six hours 4 months ago:
I’m not really surprised, the main challenge of that game is motor control, something any machine can do with more precision than a human
- Comment on Sly Cooper - What Happened to This Iconic Platformer? 4 months ago:
I loved all 3 games as a kid, and I think it did a lot of things right for a game of that era. I think it’s at least surprising that it never had a remake or a more modern iteration, considering other remakes like ratchet & clank, rayman, etc.

I wish whoever maintains this bot would figure out how to stop it from stating the same information 3-4 times in the title and the body of the post

Started playing minecraft again, wanted something cozy to play during the holidays. I always end up committing to a really big build and then lose interest halfway through, so we’ll see how it goes

I finished Chants of Sennaar a couple nights ago, it was a lot of fun. Language-based puzzle game inspired by the Tower of Babel. It’s very pretty to look at, and a lot of the puzzles were really clever. My only real complaint is that I was really expecting the final level to be much more difficult, requiring me to do a lot of synthesizing of ideas from previous levels, but instead the final puzzles were pretty easy and linear. I’d still recommend it though, the first 80% of the game is great, and if you get that far, you’ll probably have the momentum to finish, the end doesn’t take that long.

Also a fan of Unbound! My last run I tried whatever setting it is that makes it so that all fully evolved pokemon have the same stat totals, which really made the game feel different and like I actually had options for building a team. Although I still found myself thinking “oh I can’t put butterfree on my team, it’s too weak”
My favorite hack is Gaia, it doesn’t have as many features as Unbound but it’s got the right vibes for a pokemon game while still having increased difficulty and QOL stuff.
- Comment on TikTok Is Shutting Down its $2 Billion Creator Fund 7 months ago:
Some creators do get support from patreon, but most of those creators are on other platforms. I’m betting that this move pushes those creators out to focus on their other platforms, which will lead to a drastic drop in quality content.
- Comment on Google Fiber is getting outrageously fast 20Gbps service 8 months ago:
Google Fiber was planned to install in my city, but their only way of delivering service to most neighborhoods was by digging into the roads to lay cables and then covering it up with rubber. Well, they did a terrible job with the roads, tons of damage and potholes, and then they “cancelled” Fiber, so it was all for nothing. You can’t even get Fiber in my city now, even though the uncancelled it.

Complicated is fine, it was the whole “things are happening on several different floors in your base and everything is happening in real time, so you have to constantly pause to handle everything”

Very excited for adventure mode. The colony builder was overwhelming to me, but I want to support the game, so I feel like a single-character adventure would be perfect

Doesn’t surprise me that he didn’t like it. It lampshades how the themes of the original game are not actually as profound as he says they are, while also being way more fun than the majority of the original

- Comment on Wait, is Unity allowed to just change its fee structure like that? | Confusing, contradictory terms of service clauses leave potential opening for lawsuits. 9 months ago:
Damn, I hadnt even thought about that. A class on Unity right now would be only a month in, and those professors are probably agonizing over whether to continue teaching a course on an engine that might not even be a relevant skill by the time the semester is over, or desperately try to switch gears and teach something completely different. I don’t envy that decision, prepping a new course in the middle of a semester is a nightmare
- Comment on A.I. tools fueled a 34% spike in Microsoft’s water consumption, and one city with its data centers is concerned about the effect on residential supply 9 months ago:
No, but I assume you’d have to build extra infrastructure for that, which is expensive. They might now consider it worth it if they continue to need that much water, though.

Recently I’ve been playing a massive minecraft map called Drehmal, which got a big update a few weeks ago. It’s kinda like if someone made an elder scrolls game in minecraft, with lots of exploring, loot and lore to find. Unfortunately I think something about the map, either the mods needed to play it or the size, doesn’t agree with my computer and I will get a crash after a few hours of play. So maybe I should find something else.

Yeah I’m in my 20s and I found even the first few levels too hard. Granted, I’m a total noob when it comes to platformers, but I think the game would be immediately frustrating for a 5 year old
- Comment on What is your gaming "comfort food" and why? 10 months ago:
Minecraft. I go through phases of not playing it, but once or twice a year I’ll start up a new world and just mindlessly build and mine while listening to a podcast or an audiobook, and will play every night for several weeks. I’ve started so many minecraft worlds over the years that I really don’t need to think about what to do next

I’m in love with pokemon rom hacks for this reason. Tons of great hacks that are usually harder than the main games, but you can always grind if it gets too hard. And there a lots of OK hacks, but sadly only a few really good ones
