- Comment on T-Mobile users thought they had a lifetime price lock—guess what happened next 5 months ago:
Is that $8.192 per TB then?
$0.008¢ * 1024gb
That seems high? My friend blew through 40ish TB last month but pays $200/mo.
- Comment on You're Not Imagining It: Google Search Results Are Getting Worse, Study Finds 10 months ago:
I was reluctant to jump on the Kagi bandwagon, but I’m now a week in and genuinely enjoying it.
Before, I’d have to search things across Google/Bing/AskJeeves a few times to finally arrive at an answer - I’ve yet to leave Kagi this last week.
The different AI engines you can also use and the customization for styling are pretty darn good, too. I’m now using it as my dedicated search on all my android phones, my laptop, and my desktop. Time will tell if things hold up, but so far so good.
Only con so far is that it’s sometimes slow to provide results. It isn’t devastating, but it’s like a 5 second delay which “feels” slow, but it’s whatever.
- Comment on Car dealers say they can’t sell EVs, tell Biden to slow their rollout 11 months ago:
When GM killed the Bolt, I tried to buy one at two different dealerships near me. One wanted a $10k premium over MSRP and the other wanted $8k.
They also both had a non-negotiable “security” etching added and wheel protection whatever that I had to pay for.
It isn’t that I didn’t want one, it’s that your dealerships fucked it up.
Honestly, may have settled for MSRP, but they wouldn’t budge. Fuck off.
- Comment on You can remove Edge and Bing Search on Windows 11 even if you don't live in Europe 11 months ago:
Sort of?
I run Visual Studio Enterprise, no, VS Code is not sufficient for some needs.
I have to edit complex PDFs in Adobe. Free, open source readers are not enough.
Even the best linux RDP or WebRTC or otherwise apps still don’t seem to provide quite the same speed as RDP into windows hosts/servers.
I have to use Teams daily across multiple orgs, and the seemingly discontinued Linux support in lieu of the less-featured browser app / PWA just doesn’t fly.
I’ve found building windows apps on Linux, while seemingly supposed to be net similar, often times do not turn out right.
Need full featured O365 to integrate with your work’s O365? No go. Closest is installing edge on Linux and using the web version, which is subpar.
I hate windows, I use Linux when I can, but to say you can remove it from your life with very little effort is a blanket statement that is just unrealistic for many. To say there is no need is just off base.
Source: I use Windows, PopOS, KDE, Mint, and that apple OS thing that I hate more than Windows.
- Comment on Samsung is planning a 400-500$ foldable for 2024 1 year ago:
This has been my hesitation with a larger foldable. I love my Moto Razr+, because when folded it’s super pocketable, I can also check notifications at a glance and even respond without opening it. It keeps “doom scrolling” behaviors down because I’d likely need to open it to do anything beyond that.

I should’ve been more clear. Right now PowerToys and DisplayFusion let me customize where windows go when I use keyboard shortcuts (upper left, centered with large borders to each side, full top to bottom right, bottom right, etc.). On my 49" ultrawide this is a godsend for window management. Was just curious what program on Linux would offer similar behavior.
- Comment on It shouldn't matter if people work multiple jobs. The former VP of HR at Microsoft shares how to react to double dippers — 'get over it.' 1 year ago:
I honestly think I just got lucky with the jobs. Low meetings, rarely overlap, largely autonomous, fully remote.
I could probably make as much or more working one single job at Big Tech and selling my soul, but there is something freeing in making a percentage of that much but spread out / diversified.
If I ever get laid off at one, I probably have others. If an acquisition or reorg happens and I become redundant at one, at least I have the others. Is this whole situation ideal for all? Probably not, but there is a bit of mental comfort and freedom it gives me that I really can’t put a price on.
I love the work I do and the people I work with, I’ll put in a 20+ hour day if I have to, to make sure I hold up my end of the deal - but I’m lucky and I really haven’t had to (yet).

- Comment on Apple has a memory problem and we're all paying for it 1 year ago:
Can you elaborate further on the benefits? I have a Mac mini M1, a MacBook Pro M2, a more powerful Lenovo laptop, a more powerful Dell XPS, and a more powerful windows desktop (on paper).
I don’t use them a lot, but thus far, I struggle to find any benefit to MacOS. I use them because I have to and, generally, no longer than that. I mean, I might as well use Linux at that point and make my life easier and productivity faster. Mac keyboard shortcuts are an absolute nightmare to me (but maybe I’m just not used to them?)
I must be missing something, because some people swear by them.

Any recommendations for replacement utilities for Power Toys and DisplayFusion? Most notably the monitor profile & snap zones short cuts without having to use a mouse, the high order characters, and the multi-clipboard?
Thanks in advance!

No, I wouldn’t feel right. Worst case is I just attend both simultaneously.

Believe what you will, I work multiple myself and could easily pick up more. It’s easy in software engineering at large companies with disorganized practices. I even got “exceeds expectations” at one and a raise recently. I am doing all the work myself, no hiring out. They’re all in very different industries and use different tech platforms, so there is no real copying of work.
- Comment on Internet providers say the FCC should not investigate broadband prices 1 year ago:
I live very rural and my only other option was 500kbps on a good day internet which doesn’t work for my software engineering job. So I ended up having to make tons of calls and beg and plead and I finally found a fiber provider who would trench a line directly to my house for me.
Problem is…I’m paying for it for 10 years now.
But it was worth it.

I mean, yes-ish? My friend has 5 and makes way more than any one job would ever be willing to pay.
More power to him. Is he burning bridges? Probably. Is he banking a ton of money? Yeah. Is anyone getting hurt? Not really, he gets his asks done and that’s that - I’m not about to feel bad for a megacorp grossing hundreds of millions to billions a year.

- Comment on Why you shouldn't use Brave Browser 1 year ago:
Same issue here! I thought I was alone. It annoys me to no end and weirder still, issue doesn’t present itself with Firefox for Windows running behind the same IP.
Firefox Focus also doesn’t seem to present the issue. Just the primary Firefox browser for Android. And honestly, often enough that it’s nearly unusable.
If you ever figure it out, please let me know.
