- Comment on Washington's Lottery AI site turned user photo into porn 7 months ago:
It's a core problem with image generator LLMs. For some fucking reason they seem to have fed them the content from sites that had a lot of porn. Guessing Imgur and Deviantart.
Literally the first time I tried to use MS's image generator, was out with some friends trying a new fried chicken place and we were discussing fake tinder profiles.
So I thought to try it and make a fake image of "woman senuously eating fried chicken".
Content warning, blah blah blah.Try "Man sensuously eating fried chicken". Works fine.
We were all mystified by that. I went back a few days later to play around. Tried seeing what it didn't like. Tried generating "woman relaxing at park".
Again, content warning. Switch to a man, no problem. Eventually got it to generate with "woman enjoying sunset in a park." Got a very dark image, because it generated a completely nude woman T-posing in the dark. So, with that in hand I went back and started specifying "fully clothed" for a prompt involving the word "woman". All of a sudden all of the prompts worked. They fed the bot so much porn that it defaulted women to being nude.

"Much higher"
Notably, the murder rate in Sweeden and Finland is a full third below the lowest state in the US. And the US average is about 5 per 100k. - Comment on K-pop: How jealous 'super fans' try to dictate their idols' private lives 7 months ago:
From what I understand of Korean Kpop stars, particularly the female ones, are less actual stars and more the replaceable face of a massive and very nasty corporate machine.
Just like with the western ones, particularly Disney, I doubt most of them understand what they're getting into.

Thanks for posting that.
It's sad and amusing that China's lending system is doing exactly what all of the detractors said it would.

Hell, for 3k you could hire someone to haul a tent out to you. Maybe even air drop the damn thing to you.

Time to make a lot of wandering dwarf bots on reddit to make variations of various game phrases all over, so the LLM based bots just spout Rock And Stone and This is my favourite store on the Citadel?

- Comment on With AI looming, is there still space for new coders? 8 months ago:
I'll add that one of the biggest hurdles/flaws to the fundamental architecture of the design of AI is their inability to reapply a specific use case in a slightly different scenario.
This was a flaw that came out of self driving development and, as far as I understand, plays a major role in why the hype on it died off really fast. Adding more to the model can't fix that flaw.

Question from someone who plays warframe.
They do their prime bundles for a decent chunk of money. But it's also a really good deal just for the paid currency.
And you can get the same things in game for free.
So how much is the actual item vs the currency? - Comment on Name one of his songs. 9 months ago:

That's different. Video game journalism isn't factual news, it is reviews, which are inherently opinion pieces. I expect to get personal elements there. Not to mention the unique role of games putting the players in the seat of telling the story.
To paraphrase Sir Patrick Stewart:
Video games are a unique entertainment medium because the person playing them creates the story.
In a book, the author writes the story and it comes to life in your head.
In a movie or show, ultimately it's the director and editor who get to tell the story, the actors doing what they're told.
In a play or music, the actors/musicians on stage tell the story.
In a video game, the player creates the story. He was only talking about video games, but the same applies to the modern ttrpgs and more complex board games like "the captain is dead" or "tokaido"

The point of journalism is to get the facts across and inform viewers. I don't care about the journalist other than them being impartial and reporting on the facts.

You wouldn't feed the images people generate and save back into the system to improve it?
- Comment on Adobe Photoshop's AI tools put women politicians in bikini bottoms and their male colleagues in suits 9 months ago:
The issue is also present in DallE and bing image generation. Hypothesis is the sheer amount of porn being generated is affecting the models.
When I tried to create a joke profile for Tinder with some friends, I tried "woman eating fried chicken". Blocked result. "Man eating fried chicken" works.
Tried "Man T posing on beach" clothed. Woman T posing on beach, blocked.
Woman t posing at sunset on beach, returned nearly silhouetted nude image. Same thing for guy, clothed.Went back to the first one, had to specify that the woman was wearing clothes to make it return the image. Sometimes specifying specific articles.

- Comment on Why are so many countries in the world “developing” and poor, while essentially only Western countries have a high standard of living? 10 months ago:
Because you need a middle class to have a high standard of living.
And you can't have a middle class when your culture has internalized class oppression that tells you to never question your superiors.

- Comment on Square Enix’s president says it will be ‘aggressive in applying’ AI 10 months ago:
There are already mods that add voices to mod-scripted lines for Skyrim and Fallout 4. As well as a joke mod where the author took all of the recorded voice lines for Deep Rock Galactic(DRG), ran them through AI translators 40 times, then had an AI record the end result using the intonation and inflection of the characters in DRG.
However, the quotes from MS in the article provide an insight into their plans.
- Replace all localization teams.
- Replace all QA teams with AI that just run the level infinitely.
Interestingly, both of those show a fundamental lack of understanding of what a LLM can do. Yes it can do basic translation, but it fails on context in translations. E.g:
The French translation "you are a fool" can be "tu es un imbecile" but can also be "vous etes un imbecile" depending on the relationship context of the people talking. And asking AI to replace QA entirely.. oof, I guess I know to avoid MS games at launch from now on. Will be a lot of bugs.

- Comment on Starfield End of the Year Update 11 months ago:
The problem is that the spice and flavour of Skyrim was not using the fast travel and just exploring.
With modding to add random encounters and roaming friendlies/neutral mobs, Fallout 4 was great too. Even more so recently with the flyable vertibirds so that you could get the in-game fast travel that used resources.
But neither of those can exist in a game where fast travel is a clue and unavoidable gameplay mechanic.
