for starters people around here tend to misinterpret what you’re saying accidentally or willfully, far more than my experience with reddit previously.
Honestly, this is what has driven me away. No matter how innocuous something I say is, there are a bunch of “well, askshewly” asshats to argue an irrelevant part of your statement, or start the “whataboutism” shit. It’s exhausting, and frankly, takes all the fun out of it.
That and the bots reposting reddit shit. I may as well go back to reddit. Plus Narwhal is still working…

Asteroid city. Full disclosure I love pretty much every Wes Anderson movie, so it was kind of a no brainer that I’d love it. I feel like it’s more of an Anderson movie than the last few were though. It felt so much more like the royal tenenbaums or moonrise kingdom than the more recents like French dispatch did.

It’s all relative, but no, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not.
The issue, whether it’s conscious or not, is what we were sold (work hard, be nice, and you can have everything you ever wanted) not matching up with reality for most of us. My parents are squarely in the dead middle of the boomer generation. My step father is a construction worker, and my mother hasn’t worked since I was in high school. So they are one income, and it’s probably not an exceptional lot good income. They own their own home, in a very nice area, have retirement options, the world wasn’t literally on fire, they didn’t have to go through multiple once in a lifetime collapses, etc. In contrast, I’ll probably never be able to afford a home (run down houses on tiny properties are easily 800k here) and husband and I are dual income, I’ll likely never retire, my money is worth far less than theirs was, the world is burning, etc.
I’m also the last generation that didn’t have to worry about school shootings. I was graduating the year columbine happened. Not a single thing has been done in over 20 years since. I’d actually say access has gotten so much worse. Plus the “gun culture”. It’s insanity. The worship is crazy.
Then watching government fall into the farce it is, that’s bought and paid for. With little help coming to those that need it. And being a woman, watching my rights slip further and further away across the country.

lol you got a source on that claim, or is it a “I pulled it out my ass stat” because I find it pretty hard to believe.
The MASSIVE water consumption, in addition to pesticides, and the plastics used in golf balls (going with your example here) that are left in the wild, in addition to the significantly higher rate of people who play golf, are likely far worse for the environment than a handful of cars having some fun. I’m not saying racing isn’t bad for the environment. What I am saying is there are things that are FAR more common, and worse.

I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic but yeah, they have been dying of lead possessing since like forever. In the 90s, when the condor was something like 20 animals alive on the planet, organizations like the San Diego Zoo, started to push for the outlaw of lead ammo. It took until 2019 (apparently) to finally outlaw it here completely, yet the animals are still dying from it.
Lead poisoning from ingestion of lead ammunition is the most significant threat to condor survival, but other factors - including ingestion of microtrash and electrocution - also present challenges to condors as a species.per the national park service
Of the 213 condor deaths in the wild between 1992 and 2020, half (107) were due to lead poisoning, according to USFWS. according to us fish and wildlife
To answer your question why, people just don’t give a shit. Apparently lead is preferred because it’s softer than steel, and deforms in an appealing way for “hunters” and “gun enthusiasts”.

Probably should talk to the multiple other “sports” that allow it in FAR larger and more harmful ways.
- Comment on Really, ….. it's my fault they built a terrible system? 1 year ago:
I love how you all singled out a small subset of a pretty niche sport to be uptight about. No mention of avgas, which is used far more widely, and covers far more people. According to FAA nearly 250k planes still use it. They fly all over. They flyover your house, mine, everyone.
Or lead in ammunition, which is studied and proven to kill animals, and their young. The CA condor is a good example of it. They are still dying from lead poisoning, and lead ammo has been outlawed in CA. It only took until 2019 to outlaw it here, but I believe we are the only state. The recent fires here, that killed multiple condors proved that. At least one (probably more but I heard about this one) had lead in its system and when they went to try to find their young, they also had lead poisoning.
Oh and it’ll probably shock you to know, even in CA, you can go buy fuels (C16 and Q16 are the most common we see) and use them in street cars. Go to any classic American car show, and you can smell it. But yes, please single out a small subset of race cars as being the issue.

Because it serves are purpose. People don’t just fill their race cars up with leaded fuel for the pleasure of paying a LOT more.

- Comment on Does anyone *not* love using their bidet? 1 year ago:
I can’t believe I’m saying all this on the internet but here it goes.
I have TONS of food sensitivities, and IBS-C (mostly). Needless to say, I see the toilet a fair amount. I can’t believe I’m posting this. lol.
Pre bidet, things got tender, fissures, hemorrhoids, bleeding, etc were all pretty common. Post bidet, like never, or at least very rarely. I have to something incredibly stupid for any major issues now.
I got one of the expensive ones that has heated seat, deodorizer, heated water with multiple temp settings, multiple spray options, dryer (takes too long), etc. it wasn’t cheap. Every time I have to use the toilet in the wild, it’s terrible.
We went on vacation a while ago, and that whole week was rough. Never felt clean, and my rear was definitely sorer than when at home.
Basically, totally worth every penny. I can never go back.
To answer the bonus question, it will partly depend on the budget you get. If you get a manual one, it has a lever to move the water flow around. If it doesn’t, you just wiggle around a bit, to get the water where you want it. If you get one of the expensive ones, with a moving water nozzle, it does the bulk of the work for you, but you may still have to wiggle a little to get everywhere.
Once the water has washed everything away, you can either wait to drip dry, or if your bidet has a dryer you can use that, but typically I just take like 4-5 squares of TP to dry off. I use WAY less TP than ever.
Depending on the bidet you get, be ready for needing to get some conversion hardware to install it. The kohler one I got, didn’t have the correct fittings for standard American plumbing (doesn’t make a lot of sense but Home Depot guy already knew exactly what was going on and said it was super common).
I can answer any other specific questions you have too. Just ask.

I’m mostly in agreement but the end ruined it for me. I’m sorry, people with that much trauma just don’t react that way. There was “change” for a short period of time (positivity) but that doesn’t undo the past.
It’s hard to say what I’m trying to without spoilers.
- Comment on How do you know if you truly love someone as a mother? 1 year ago:
Your siblings and cousins suck. Don’t listen to them.
I’ve been in your position, and had people, at certain points in my life, who changed my life without really doing anything, or realizing it.
We all take bits and pieces of who, and what we interact with in the world. Those bits may be amazingly beautiful, or they may be world shattering. Your bio parents probably were more of the latter, but your ex’s mom might have been someone that set your life in a completely different, and better path, with a word, or a hug, or a shoulder.
I can only speak for myself, but having someone show an ounce of compassion, or empathy can be everything to someone who grew up with a shitty family (whatever that looks like).
That’s where the term “chosen family” comes from.
