That, or they have a vested interest in continuing to promote it and keep it "alive", like the owners of this publication clearly do.
- Comment on Consumers are so demoralized by inflation and high rates they've given up on saving for the American Dream and are spending money instead, economist says 5 months ago:
Anyone who still believes in, never mind promotes the lie that is (and always has been) the "American dream" should be categorically ignored, if not publicly chastised.
- Comment on how are some people able to fall asleep anywheres? 5 months ago:
People saying "if you're tired enough you can sleep anywhere", making me laugh my exhausted ass off (and feel jealous af, but can't really hold it against them).
I've spent more nights than I can count laid in bed for hours, absolutely shattered, wanting nothing but sleep, and none has come. Then when I do finally fall asleep, it isn't for long or of any decent quality (as in EtraordinaryJoe's case - chronic pain will do that to you), so I'm still always tired, and yet still unable to just fall asleep.
My trick to getting to sleep at night is weed and a meal, to help induce food coma, which again, isn't quality sleep, but it's better than nothing..

Get your head out of your ass.
And before anyone even tries - I have no kids and want no kids, but to answer this bullshit with "don't have kids" is unhelpful at the very least, and actively licking boot at worst. These problems are not the fault of the people having kids.

- Comment on The cost-of-living crisis is so bleak that some Gen Zers genuinely fear becoming homeless 6 months ago:
Silly me, I assumed all people, those in the working class at least, genuinely fear becoming homeless..
Seriously though, what an odd way to frame it, but I guess when you look at the source, it makes a bit more sense that a financial publication will be spreading this kind of out of touch divisive crap, it's not like they're going to be honest about capitalism and the fact that people of all ages are finding it harder and harder to survive under it..
- Comment on Poll: Around 25% of young people in the lowest-income households feel “people like me don’t have much of a chance in life” 6 months ago:
Honestly, that's shockingly low, depressingly even.
As long as people, of all ages, continue to have any faith in the status quo (or in the possibility that "reforming" or regulating it is all we need), even though it is clear (once you look) that they should have none, they will not revolt, or even support a revolt, against it.
I hate to think how much worse things are going to have to get before enough people realise the system was never there to serve them, even if it makes them feel it does sometimes (because they're a man and/or white and/or abled and/or cis and/or hetero and so on...).
- Comment on 54% of young Americans say food costs are the biggest strain on their finances 6 months ago:
According to these comments there exists some fairy lands untouched by inflation and food deserts don't exist, it's just those damn millennials and their avocados again... 🙄🤦♀️
The kind of privilege that enables for that level of detachment (within the working class) is already obscene, but then using it to literally claim other peoples' reality simply doesn't exist is just so fucking gross..
Maybe people should just be thankful they've magically managed to escape the global inflation and all the rest of the bullshit companies are pulling to charge more for less, instead of calling people less fortunate than them, liars.

- Comment on How do people actually dumpster dive to get free food? Are there any other cheap/free ways like this to get food? 6 months ago:
To add, have a look at aps like Too Good To Go (I might be imagining it but there might be one for grocery shops too), as I understand it they offer up food from restaurants that would have otherwise been binned for low prices (or even free? I'm not sure).
Also Approved Food sell food that is past it's best by date, but still good to eat, at much lower prices.
There are also places, I can't think of what they're called right now, but it's basically a communal grocery shop where you take what you need, and pay what you can. Maybe ask your local foodbank if they know of anything like that?
Lastly, when I was looking for an example of that last one, I found this page that might be helpful:

Some good tips here already (look for another food bank/pantry/church in your area that could help, follow dumpster diving youtube channels for advice), you could also try some of these, or look for similar sites (I've only skimmed these, not vouching for the content):

But more importantly, please have a look at/chat to turn2us, you are almost certainly entitled to some benefits, they will help you figure out which you are entitled to, and there are then benefits advisers in almost every town who can help you through the process if you find it too daunting and/or difficult.

- Comment on [Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism? 6 months ago:
And some just see those who militantly focus on attacking fellow individuals instead of the systems that are actually to blame (but which they otherwise support and/or benefit from, like capitalism, racism, and ableism) counterproductive, annoying, and hypocritical.
The militant vegans I have come across, and being vegan myself, it's a lot, far too many, are almost exclusively drowning in so much privilege, they can't see how ridiculous they're being in their bizarre militancy of policing other people's plates instead of the actual industries abusing animals (and humans, who these vegans rarely to never pay any thought to, not out loud or in their actions, anyway).
(before I even hit send: if you feel personally attacked by my comment - that's a sign for you to think about it with yourself and ideally do something about it, not try and prove me wrong, inevitably proving me 100% right)
- Comment on [Serious] Do you know of any processed snack foods with some vitamins? 6 months ago:
While I'm autistic and have my own issues with food, we're all different and have our own lists of "safe" and "unsafe" foods, so I don't have any advice specific advice other than please, please don't listen to the people who want you to abuse your child by either forcing, or withholding food.
Post this in an autistic group if you want to hear how well that actually works (that's actually the best advice I can give in general - follow autistic people and spaces, listen to autistic adults who have been there and know what your child is going through, and, often with the opposite intent, the damage their parent or guardian or doctor or "therapist" did to their mental and general health and wellbeing because they were treated as poorly behaved neurotypicals, instead of the neurodiverse individuals that they (we) are.

If you try to inject this conversation into normal discourse you might be surprised how fast you discover some people’s prejudices against mental illness.
Sadly, I wouldn't be surprised at all..
- Comment on Since 2016 the general publics knowledge about narcissism and manipulation has increased significantly. 6 months ago:
No, what there has been is an increase in an already prevalent phenomenon (see: mass shooters) of blaming mental illness and/or personality disorders for abusive, violent, and flat out fascistic actions, when they don't actually cause those, it's just so much easier to do than to think more deeply and/or critically about the systems and structures that don't only enable, but encourage such behaviour, especially in those with privilege and power (because actually mentally ill people are much more likely to be victims of violence and other abuse, than perpetrate it).
Using diagnosable conditions as shorthand for "abusive" or "toxic" or "harmful" or "violent" or "racist" or whatever else, is ableism. It deepens already existing and harmful stigmas, prevents people from seeking help and support and being open about their struggles, and actually puts them at greater risk of further abuse just for being diagnosed the way they are, even if they've never hurt a fly.
In short:
“Are you saying that murderers are right in the head??”
No there’s definitely something wrong with someone’s way of thinking if they can justify killing innocent people, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they have a mental illness.
Extremist beliefs isn’t a mental illness.
Bigotry isn’t a mental illness.
Entitlement isn’t a mental illness.
Hate isn’t a mental illness.
Having a dysfunctional moral compass isn’t a mental illness.
We need to stop categorizing all these things as some undefinable “mental illness” and start looking at what we do as a society to develop and justify these things to a degree where people use them to justify killing.
Yes!
Dehumanization is something you Have to look for. If the murderer doesn’t see the person they killed as a person, then mental illness is probably not the main factor there.
Plenty of people murder women, poc, lgbt people, people of other religions etc. because they don’t see them as people.
Think about genocides - they aren’t perpetrated by big group of people/a government who all got mentally ill together the same way at the same time somehow, they just didn’t consider what they did murder because they didn’t see the victims as people. In more depth:

Probably because you've got one boot stuck so deep down your throat you can't see the other one stomping on your own neck, as well as everyone's around you (including the people they "help", only after having exploited them first, as well as maintaining and exclusively benefiting from the systems that keep them poor and sick in the first place, of course).. ¯\(ツ)/¯

That's because the philanthropy is working exactly as intended - to white wash his reputation, and make him out to be "the good billionaire".
Moving down from no. 1 to no. 5, at that scale of wealth literally has no impact on him, but rather it's money well spent to take the heat and attention off of him so he can continue exploiting an hoarding in peace.
