Even stranger marketing campaign, if you can even call it that. It was like four YouTube videos and some tweets.
- Comment on Dusk Developer David Szymanski: I'd rather pay Valve 30% and put up with their de facto monopoly than help Epic work towards their own (very obviously desired) monopoly 1 year ago:
"Exploit their near-monopolies". Except Valve doesn't "exploit" their near monopoly, I don't see Valve buying exclusives do you? They just provide a better product. Most importantly, they provide a better product then piracy. That is the bare minimum a games store on PC needs to reach and Epic does not reach that. Epic isn't failing because of Steam, it's failing because why buy a $60 game on a featureless store that launches an .exe for me when I can just download the .exe directly for free? If Epic wanted to provide a better product, they have billions of dollars and hundreds of devs to make that happen. They just choose not to.
but I think it’s better that game dev studios and app developers get money instead.
This tired old argument... There's absolutely no evidence that the extra money these companies get from the Epic cut doesn't just go straight into a Bobby Kotick yacht or some shit. There's a lot of grubby hands in-between the store platform and the actual dev teams and maybe I'm cynical but this "trickle-down" model of economics seems kind of far fetched.

So now its not xenophobia, it's because people don't like the popularity of Fortnite? How about lets not handwave all of Tencent's crimes against humanity with "you're just xenophobic" or "you just don't like Fortnite". Nobody of any good conscious should support that company or any of its owned companies (partially or otherwise).

referencing xenophobic shit like “because china”
Disliking a company that aids in genocide makes you "xenophobic"?
Content that Beijing deems “subversive” has also been forced to be removed from both platforms. Human rights experts are well aware of the ways that these apps have been utilized to spy on Uyghurs and other dissenting voices and are used to persecute these individuals and their family members. Information collected from WeChat can be enough to land one in a concentration camp or prison, as is the case for many Uyghurs who have contact with foreigners or family members who are abroad. Tencent, WeChat’s parent company, is thus clearly complicit in the genocide of Uyghurs, amongst other affronts on human rights. The United States administration has not been alone in acknowledging this, India has also banned far more Chinese apps than were addressed by the U.S. executive order on August sixth.

Is it surprising to you that Valve is a for-profit company, not a charity? Of course they profit from the 30%. Just like with any other product, you charge based on what people are willing to pay. If you charge too much, people won't pay for the product and you have to readjust the price. Obviously since companies are willing to pay the 30%, it must not be too high. Somehow I doubt if the people complaining about this woke up as the CEO of Valve, they would be willing to massively cut their companies profits because... why? Just to be nice to a bunch of other corporations?

Smaller game studios on Epic are DOA anyway because Epic refuses to implement game discovery features.
When it introduced Steam Direct, Valve prioritized the development of Steam features that helped users discover games they might be interested in, such as the Discovery Queue. The Epic Games Store will continue to get interface updates, but as a matter of principle, Allison says that Epic will not track user behavior and use it to algorithmically recommend games. Epic has said in the past that it's more interested in supporting the game discovery that already happens outside of stores, such as on Twitch and YouTube.
So Epic will put your game trailer on their YouTube for 300 views and call it a day.

I've got the benefit of nostalgia I guess, but I played through the original a few months ago for probably the fifth time in my life and still enjoyed myself. The main things that has aged is the ugly character models, this mod can improve those. Might want to look as some of these as well. You want to play through the original+crisis core first before the remake for... reasons.

Funny enough Yoshi P was the one that said turn-based was outdated and he's worked on DQ before but only the MMO, arcade games, Minecraft clone and a Wii FPS thing. I think it's pretty obvious he just doesn't like the genre. DQ11 was the breakthrough hit in the West and he had nothing to do with it.

Final Fantasy moving away from turn-based because it's "outdated" is peak Square silliness. Have they ever heard of chess, card games, board games, DnD, Civilization, Persona, Dragon Quest, XCOM, Darkest Dungeon? If anything, DMC-style character action games are far more niche.

- Comment on Microsoft to stop forcing Windows 11 users into Edge in EU countries 1 year ago:
Most desktop environments are really efficient at what they do and minimize the background resources they take. Just checked my system and GNOME takes ~350MBs RAM and literally 0.0% CPU, it's insane. I looked up Windows 11 and it seems like it can use up to 4 GBs (!) of RAM all by itself.

Linus' brand of assholery extends to cussing out some of his colleagues via email when they did something stupid, sometimes. It's not even remotely comparable to Steve Jobs (horrible treatment of his daughter and Bill Gates (EEE strategy, monopolistic practices).

I used to like LTT up until their "Linux Challenge" videos which were just a pain to watch. Shit like this coming from the biggest tech channel on youtube just drives me up the wall.
- Comment on HW News - Linus Tech Tips' Terrible Response, ESMC, & Starfield x AMD GPUs 1 year ago:
So let me get this straight.
- Linus screwed over a small two-person startup with his own incompetence by using the product in an unintended way and not using the GPU and instructions which were provided for him.
- Stole their prototype which they needed to develop their product further, even going so far as to sell it at auction.
- Goes on record to say "yes, we screwed up but it would cost $100-$500 to fix it so I'm not going to and no, I'm not apologizing for that". (That amount of money is chump change to him.)
- Lies about offering to recompense the company. They didn't do that until after getting called out.
- When he gets criticized for screwing over this company for his own mistakes, rather than owning up he tries to gaslight everybody into think he is somehow the victim?? "Today was so hard bros" oh poor wittle multi-million dollar Linus... I'll be sure to pray for you while I struggle to pay my rent.
What a fucking piece of shit, fuck him. I hate people like this that simply can't own up to mistakes and have to deflect all criticism.

Game is honestly a lot of fun, you just have to play for a few hours before you start unlocking more enemies and game modes. Most people won't reach that point and think that payload and five enemies are all the game has to offer.
- Comment on Gundam Evolution shutting down, launched less than a year ago 1 year ago:
I honestly don't know what a game can do to survive as a live service nowadays. Japanese live services games in particular are just DOA instantly, but even giants like Valve (Artifact) and Blizzard (OW2) are failing at this. Can't charge money upfront because no one would try the game. Can't go F2P with paid cosmetics/characters because people will complain about microtransactions (because these game companies are charities, right?). Can't change the game too much in updates, can't have too few updates. Seems like we are just going to be stuck with the same handful of old live service games for the rest of eternity.
