- Comment on Switching to more privacy friendly alternatives 1 year ago:
Definitely. Now I just occasionally mention that I have and use more privacy friendly alternatives as a sort of “fyi” for them to know. It’s better for the other parties to want to switch out of their own desires than to be forced. If it is forced upon them and things don’t go smoothly, you’ll end up getting resentment or worse, blamed. Better to use subtle encouragement and if they decide to switch, offer lots of useful advice and assistance.

“I don’t have anything to hide”
I prefer to suggest a different mindset - “It’s not that I have nothing to hide. It’s that I have nothing I want anybody to see”
- Comment on Is the government really trying to control your TV? Here's what its proposal on streaming apps means for you 1 year ago:
Best guess is that companies are probably paying the TV manufacturers to have their app preinstalled and appearing in front of the line.

What i do when sharing from an app would be to use a url cleaner app first and then share the cleaned link.
This is the app i use play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.svenjac…

Wing Commander 3 and Black & White.
Played both of them when i was a kid and it’ll be nice to be able to play them again as an adult.

We should start by having all learner drivers go through proper driving school taught by proper licensed instructors. Allowing a family member do the teaching just invites bad / dangerous habits to be taught / learned.

Almost as good, with best being a full refund and worse being nothing at all. I’ve had Google Play app purchases disappear and that was it. No refunds.

I don’t think they are around anymore.

It may be store policy but it unfortunately does not prevent it from happening. Two examples i can remember are “Gentle Alarm” and “Manhatten Project”. Both I purchased and no longer available. Also not in my “not installed” list unfortunately.
I may have used the wrong terminology in my earlier reply. There is “unlisted” where the developer leaves the app in the store but removes it from the search. “Carcassonne” by Exocet comes to mind. It is still available for me to install but searching for it only shows the version by Asmodee.
Then there is the complete removal of the app. Gentle Alarm and Manhatten Project are 2 examples. :(

Right, a gift credit. My bad. It’s almost as good as a refund, still better than being out of pocket.

At least you got a refund. I lost count of the number of apps and games I purchased from the Google Play store that got unlisted / removed and I didn’t get any refunds. Granted it’s not Google removing the app but it’s the developers unlisting it for whatever reason. A small heads up before said unlisting would have been nice.

I also hate apps which request for unnecessary permissions. I have a dashcam which has an app to view the recorded videos. The app requires bluetooth as well as gps location info. Bluetooth is understandable but I don’t see the need for GPS. Unfortunately for me I can’t seem to get mock locations working properly on my phone. It also refuses to work if i do not give it location permission. :(

Same here. I ended up using C9nnect for Lemmy as it doesn’t collect any data.

I’m about to suggest another app for you to install. :p
If you’re using an android phone (I don’t know if it exist on iOS) install the DuckDuckGo app. It has a feature called “App Tracking Protection”. It is supposed to block all trackers. I think it works as one of the games i have installed on my phone takes about a minute longer to load, compared to without the tracking protection. I think this is the next best course of action (apart from not installing / using the required apps).
