- Comment on Looking to move on from Unraid, need suggestions. 1 month ago:
Yeah but as far as i know, unraid doesn’t really do anything that for example TrueNAS Scale can’t do? And TrueNAS is free and really rock-solid.
So if someone doesn’t want to host an Ubuntu Server i’d recommend checking out TrueNAS Scale and simply throwing some dockers at it
- Comment on Looking to move on from Unraid, need suggestions. 1 month ago:
I never used unraid but was thinking about it
I went to truenas for my NAS and Ubuntu server for my application server instead. I use dockge for my docker webui and I’m happy with that setup

you’re welcome!
to be fair, it’s more of a gimmick when using it in your home. I have a notebook that i use to test out new distros on and i can hook it up to my LAN and quickly install something without whipping out the USB stick.
Also the mini gaming pc hooked to my TV is a victim of being reinstalled every couple months after i tinker around too much.

It’s a 64GB stick and i manually keep it in sync with my netbootxyz instance

www.truenas.com/docs/scale/22.12/…/docker/#adding…
Scrolling down should show you the different screenshots. Point 6. of the list should show the “Storage” Tab where you have the “Host Path Volumes”
That should enable you to link a path on your host to a path on your docker container.
For example Host: /mnt/mediashare/audiobooks Container: /media/audiobooks

whisper is an STT application that stems from openAI afaik, but it’s open source at this point.
i wrote a little guide on how to install it on a server with an NVidia GPU and hw acceleration and integrate it into your homeassistant after. a.lemmy.dbzer0.com/lemmy.dbzer0.com/…/5330316
it’s super fast with a GPU available and i use those little M5 ATOM Echo microphones for this.

Yup, 8GB card
Its my old one from the gaming PC after switching to AMD.
It now serves as my little AI hub and whisper server for home assistant

I’d be interested, yes.
But if you don’t feel like publishing it at the current state and don’t plan to “clean it up” any time soon, don’t rush it. There are some bots out there that could do the trick if i sit down properly^^

What on earth is going on with your keyboad?!
Besides that, i have 20GB of VRAM and 64GB or RAM. I can run the mixtral 8x7b model relatively usable. Currently i use oobabooga the most.

Any chance to tell us what tool you use for that?
I have some communities where i’d like to automatically post github release posts into.

VTT integration would be one hell of a job to do.

It’s available throug ollama already. i am running the 8b model on my little server with it’s 3070 as of right now.
It’s really impressive for a 8b model
- Comment on Uses for local AI? 3 months ago:
Any model recommendation for that?
The ones i tried get stuck in a loop at some point due to the small context windows.

It’s a tool like any other. If you don’t have any usecase for it, just don’t use it.
I use it to summarize release notes and generate some minor descriptions for generic stuff in my TTRPG campaigns.

Microsoft would do anything to keep the statcounting service running more stable than the kernel itself

I have no idea why you would have regret about not getting an hour long video of someone removing a stuck ring

Fully automatic Borg backups from within the container is neat

I switched for that exact reason. And I certainly did not want them to share any of my activities 😁
It was just better with metadata, it was snappier when finding songs.

i switched from plex to jellyfin because i like the FOSS approach more. But plex is so incredibly much better as a music backend than jellyfin.
Jellyfin is fine, but not perfect
