@jarulf @imaginaryuncle @bookstodon I use mine for quotes and notes that then I use to review at my blog, but I also use it for:
- Titles I want to buy, but can't at the moment (sometimes when I go back, I decide that I don't want one or two as much as I thought, so I strike them, it helps to stop impulsive buys)
- If I want to read or re-read the series by order of publication, I make a page with the titles in order, so I know the next one
- If I find an author I love, I make a page with everything they published
- Titles or websites to check that are referenced in the book I'm reading (it happens in non-fiction mostly)
- At the end of the year I like to go through my shelves and decide my TBR for the next year, so I note it down too (never manage to stick to all but that's fine)
It's not pretty, sometimes I use colour or stickers, but it's mostly a working notebook, so I always remind myself it's ok to strike things, etc.
Leuchtturm is really good, never had a Midori, but see many talking about the paper high quality. My currently reading journal is a Waverley, mostly because the cover is in tartan, but I prefer the leuchtturm to write (I've been using them as my everything else needs, bullet journal, tasks, thinking notebook, etc) - Comment on I've been thinking about using a self hosted private book tracking tool in t 1 week ago:
@jarulf I'm using Openreads, it's not self hosting, but it's private, no socials, free/open source software, it's a mobile app. If you change mobile phones, you'll need to export, backup, and import into the new one.
It can add books by scanning the ISBN, it divides books by reading, for later, finished. It captures days of reading, it allows you to take notes, give stars, insert number of pages. It also gives us statistics, how many books we read, the book we took more/less time to read, number of pages read, by year, by month, etc. it also allows tagging to tell if it's paperbook, audiobook, eBook. I also use tags to tell if it's a library book or a book I own.
If you decide not to self host, maybe it can be of interest.
(I also use a paper reading journal for my notes, reviews when the books ask for them, an excuse to writing by hand, but this more practical information stays in Openreads)Link to features and stores to download:
