Been using UMU (with GE-Proton builds) via Lutris for some months now to play World of Warcraft and some other games. Works like a champ :)

I swear all the CEOs on the planet have lost their damn mind.
And his last name is Cocks, so I guess this tracks.
- Comment on GE-Proton 9-13 released bringing in a fix for World of Warcraft 2 months ago:
I had this issue immediately with 9-12. Turns out it was an issue with vkd3d. And I’m very thankful that a new version of GE-Proton was released so fast after the vkd3d fix had been committed/pushed.

I want to play a new fun Star Trek game! And this one fits the bill nicely especially because previous games made by these devs were hours of enjoyment. I trust in their ability to tell a great story!
- Comment on Windows 11 is getting native macOS or Linux-like Sudo command 9 months ago:
How about instead of trying to shim Linux into Windows…just make Windows a DE on Linux and be done with it. Jesus.

Oh I used some interesting IDE-based searching. QA closed the ticket so apparently I got them all! Haha.
- Comment on What are some common misconceptions about programming that you'd like to debunk? 9 months ago:
That “just changing a word” is easy and quick. A codebase is an iceberg. Management only really typically understands the surface, but there is a disproportionate amount of ice under the water.
I had to change all instances of a label from a word to an abbreviation. Because we don’t have i18n set up in the app, it ended up affecting 55 different files. I did my best to consolidate into everything calling a common function, but it’s far from perfect. 55 files changed because management said “oh this word here should be shorter”.
- Comment on TrekMovie.com: Patrick Stewart Reveals New Star Trek Movie Script Featuring Jean-Luc Picard Is In The Works 10 months ago:
I think this is great and anything I can see Patrick Stewart in, I will. I don’t share the opinion that Picard series was bad. I don’t see Picard as a one-dimensional must always be the same character. People change over time. And Picard has also changed. Like it or not.
Bring on the movie!

No shit, Sherlock. The rest of the educated world could see the shit-show that would ensue. I guess it’s good they finally caught on.
- Comment on Here's the most played Steam Deck games of 2023 10 months ago:
Baldurs Gate 3 looks so bad on the Steam Deck it’s unplayable for me. I followed all the advice on the various graphical settings (FSR, AA settings, etc) and it still looks like garbage. It’s no longer eating up 122GB.
I have played a couple others on the list, but mostly I play older games like Chrono Trigger (SNES).
- Comment on Elon Musk launches profane attack on X advertisers 11 months ago:
One day, Elon will no longer exist. That will be a good day for humanity. But sadly he’s just a symptom of the billionaires-exist problem. If a matter-energy conversion device ever gets invented and hopefully democratized, money will become meaningless – and it will drown people like him in their own narcissism.

Came here to say this. Thank you, fellow Trekkie (or, Trekker…I don’t assume age or which series/captain is better. Picard. It’s Picard).

Second only to Code of Honor as the worst TNG episodes.
- Comment on [VERGE] Jon Stewart’s Apple TV Plus show ends, reportedly over coverage of AI and China 1 year ago:
I wish more people, especially those in government, were like Jon Stewart. He is a true American, a true free thinker, and a man of very high values and principles. It’s too bad Apple doesn’t understand the voice they had with him.

- Comment on [HN] I Will Fucking Haymaker You If You Mention Agile Again 1 year ago:
Interesting, as it seems to me the author has worked for numerous places, like I have, that bastardize Agile so much that it is like working in a daycare full of idiots. Especially idiots who think they know what Agile is.
I no longer browse HN because it’s become so much like Reddit it’s pointless, but I suspect the comments are full of Agile purist bullshit that make every excuse for the experiences the author describes. It’s fascinating to witness such pointless tribalism.

My favorite TOS episode! I wasn’t alive yet when it aired, but I’ve seen it numerous times since. This episode rivals Best of Both Worlds (TNG) and The Visitor (DS9), both of which are the best Trek has ever done.
