God that’s so corporate-coded - instead of fixing your divisions so they are all profitable, just take your two successful divisions and squeeze them like you’re trying to get blood out of a stone.

A lot of teens in the US have jobs; I’ve worked since I was 14. At $10/month that’s like 1 fast food meal, and if you use it as your major chat platform that’s easily worth it for the convenience it offers you. And teens don’t generally have other major bills to pay.

Apple, Google, and Microsoft commit antitrust violations too fast and numerous for the legal systems to keep up.
That and they spy on consumers for the US government so that gives them free passes at a lot of things.

Yeah, we should own those dirty communist propagandists by housing every homeless person.
The commies will be sooo owned if we do that.

It’s 35m deep - for comparison recreational scuba divers go up to 30m deep and professional scuba divers up to 60m deep.
It will have to be well engineered and difficult to repair compared to a land facility, but nothing compared to like the space station.
Very cool idea, after 25 years there should be significant cost savings overall.

Discovery also had hologram communication technology that I guess was also a secret? Starfleet went back to flatscreens for everything and didn’t use holograms again until the 24th century.
If it was just one thing, okay, but there were such numerous inconsistencies, it was like the writers and designers did not care about trek, they were writing a sci-fi show with the trek name slapped on top.
It’s totally possible to respect the heritage of old sci-fi - look at The Mandalorian and Andor - maintaining consistency with the old retro sci-fi aesthetic actually elevates them above what a modern redesign would have done.

Funny that I was just watching Bill Burr on Conan say the same thing about Steve Jobs like 15 years ago. People treat him like he’s Nikola Tesla level inventor, but he’s really just ordering around the nameless/faceless engineers who do the actual invention.
I think collectively we’re getting burned out on hero worship or the lone genius myth. Every advancement is a collective effort.

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense now.
I want to make my position on this part clear:** there’s no defending the DNC for supporting a genocidal apartheid state.**
But like it or not, the DNC is demonstrably far better on LGBT rights, women’s rights, minority rights, and voting rights in the US. They could look similar to you, but with the DNC there is actually a path forward to be better.
And also like it or not, Trump will do nothing good for Palestine. Trump fucking hates brown people, he hates Muslims, the situation will get worse for everyone in the middle east and for women and minorities in the US. And long-term, if you all think America is racist and imperialist now, when cristo-fascists take over and really turn America into a white Christian empire that launches a religious crusade against the rest of the world, y’all will realize how good you had it when it was just the neolibs being greedy for money.

Critical thinking - would a little Jewish strike group attacking German civilians make the Nazi party hold back and lessen the horrors, or would it have scared the Germans into further supporting the Nazi party and lead to an even more outright assault on Jewish people, making the horrors even worse?
It would have made it worse. Without a doubt, the Holocaust would have been even worse.
You need to be honest with yourself, is this about protecting human life, or do you just fetishize violence against people you hate?

You’re running in nonsensical circles my dude. First you say “Democracy” is “fascism-lite”, now you’re saying that to be “anti-Democracy” is “authoritarian”.
Did you slip up and accidentally reveal to the wrong community that you’re anti-Democracy, or did you poorly communicate your original intent and write out the wrong statement?

Democracy is demonstrably far less oppressive than fascism.
If you are actually anti-opression, the choice for Democracy is a no-brainer.

- Comment on TikTok says it’s not the algorithm, teens are just pro-Palestine — The company denied allegations that it has been promoting pro-Palestine content in an effort to sway American opinion 1 year ago:
Sure, but who is the “oppressor” and who is the “oppressed” can flip on a dime based on context.
A lot of oppressed people eventually find themselves to be the oppressor.
If you take a hard stance joining any side, you are at some point siding with an oppressor.
I don’t need to describe how horrific and oppressive Nazi Germany and the Holocaust was. But you take a hard stance siding with the Jewish people, you are siding with the oppressor in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
I don’t need to describe how horrific the situation in Gaza is, but if you take a hard stance siding with Palestine and Hamas executes a bunch of festival goers, you’re siding with the oppressor.
The only way to be anti-opression (and according to you, a real progressive), is to not take sides but take every situation as it is and support the best possible outcome for everyone.

What do you think this graph that you’re linking to represents?
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
First of all, that graph you showed is not average persons income like you claim. Your graph is average household income, and the average number of persons working per household is increasing, and the average number of jobs per person is increasing. So yes, where a household might have had one income previously, it may now have two income earners working two jobs each. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but four jobs bringing in more income than one job is not a flex.
Second, inflation is a poor metric, because necessities like rent far outpace inflation.
What is my line of reasoning? Wealth inequality is straight up increasing. The rich are getting richer. The poor are getting poorer. Do you think it’s the rich who have engineered this, or the poor? I’ll let you decide.

If the 3 biggest OS were all FOSS, I would agree.
Right now, Linux is the ONLY major OS that respects user freedom and privacy. Full stop.
The community around Linux isn’t there because user preference; the real reason it exists and so many people are passionate about it is because FOSS software is the difference between a future that looks like Star Trek, and one that looks like Cyberpunk 2077.

That’s true but that reflects more on how bloated and inefficient the tech sector is. And now the other shoe is dropping with mass layoffs.
