- Comment on Microsoft develops ultra durable glass plates that can store several TBs of data for 10000 years 1 year ago:
Maybe if we build it for ourselves. Looks beautifully simple. The encoding is probably a little trick but we can get there.
Just need a laser that can make marks in glass at different depth.

Are you doing the support for free? If so I would make another teamviewer account.
I’ve only heard of them asking for money if you connect to a computer with a paid account. Are you connecting to computers with paid teamviewer instances?
- Comment on Do you use a self hosting solution? 1 year ago:
Just docker and some scripts. I used unraid for a bit but it annoyed me.
- Comment on The Google Pixel 8 is official with 7 years of updates 1 year ago:
I got burned on a pixel device and I’ll never go back. In my case the phone was fine but Google botched an update and it took a year to really sort out. I stopped using the phone after two months of near unusable phone functions like answering a call. Much later I tried it again and it worked fine.
So they might do updates for a while but are they shit updates?
- Comment on How do you backup your data? 1 year ago:
The only type of data I care about is photos and video I’ve taken. Everything else is replaceable.
My phone —> immich —> backblaze b2, and some Google drive.
Linux isos I can always redownload.

- Comment on Pixel 8 leak promises 7 years of OS updates—even more than an iPhone 1 year ago:
I had a pixel phone once. A few months in the phone got a bag update that crippled the device. They fixed it nearly a year later. I had a Lagship not a flagship. #neverforget.
Not only does Google need to demonstrate that they will do updates. They have to do a good job at it.

- Comment on China sentences Uyghur scholar to life in jail 1 year ago:
Dead ends as in it doesn’t link to other news sites? That’s an odd requirement for a story.
I was someone who questioned if this was really happening in China several years ago but it isn’t a story to doubt anymore.
- Comment on Ban on wood burners threatens British boat-dwellers with winter freeze 1 year ago:
Yes I realize you would have to prevent the importation as well. At least ideally.
The logic is to prevent the distraction of a valuable resource. One that is viewed as paper and lumber and not what it really is.
- Comment on Ban on wood burners threatens British boat-dwellers with winter freeze 1 year ago:
What a failure of a policy. Ban cutting down trees not burning them. Wtf.
- Comment on China sentences Uyghur scholar to life in jail 1 year ago:
The treatment of Uyghurs and the lack of reaction from the west makes me think WWII was really about money and not people.
- Comment on FCC closing loophole that gave robocallers easy access to US phone numbers 1 year ago:
What? Many home lines are VoIP and can use services just fine. Are you talking about SMS based 2FA? That should work unless your carrier is broken. I have 2FA on my VoIP lines no problem.

I’ve got a question. Does anyone really care if the specs are x.xxGhz and XGB of RAM? It’ll be +YGhz and YGB of RAM more than the last generation at least.

- Comment on iPhone 15's USB-C Port Remains Limited to Lightning Speeds 1 year ago:
If you are dealing with large amounts of data I get it. I’d go hardwired too. Most people’s use case is “I took some video today and I want to mirror it to my computer”. That doesn’t sound like the case.
How much data are you moving around?
- Comment on iPhone 15's USB-C Port Remains Limited to Lightning Speeds 1 year ago:
Are you syncing all of your data off of the phone via the cable and not wifi?

Checking in from a state in the south. Naw it is the same. Just fewer people snooping around asking questions. My area was big on Live PD and part of the downfall of the show.
